Gynecomastia – Cape Cod, Needham, Wareham

Gynecomastia is a term describing persistent enlargement of the male breast. Gynecomastia affects about 40 to 60 percent of men, and it may affect only one or both breasts to varying degrees. Although certain drugs and medical problems have been linked to male breast over-development, there is generally no known cause in the vast majority of cases. A history of cancer, liver disorders, or the use of certain drugs (anabolic steroids, alcohol, estrogen medications, etc.) can contribute to gynecomastia.

A male breast reduction procedure with Cape Cod plastic surgeon Dr. Rheingold can give men with gynecomastia a firmer, flatter, and more contoured chest. This result enhances men’s self-confidence while reaffirming their masculinity.

Gynecomastia treatment surgery in Cape Cod with Dr. Rheingold removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts and, in extreme cases, excess skin, resulting in a chest that has a more masculine contour. Dr. Rheingold is skilled in a variety of different surgical techniques used to reduce and to reshape the male breast in Cape Cod, including excisional surgery and/or liposuction.

Like all surgical procedures, there are risks and complications associated with gynecomastia surgery. If Dr. Rheingold performs liposuction surgery on the breasts, patients will need to wear a compression garment for 2 to 4 weeks. If he does excisional surgery, then wound drains may be necessary. Any scarring is usually small and inconspicuous, and it fades over time.
