LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction (saline assisted lipoplasty) is a surgical procedure in which fat is removed from the subcutaneous areas of the body. It is especially effective in such areas as the face, neck, upper arms, torso, abdomen, buttock, thighs, legs and knees. Although liposuction improves body contours and shape, it is not a replacement for weight loss. Liposuction is particularly effective for the removal of unwanted fat from body areas that do not respond to diet and/or exercise. Frequently, liposuction may be combined with other surgical procedures such as face lift, abdominoplasty or breast reduction surgery. The best candidates for liposuction surgery are individuals near their ideal weight who have an excess of fat localized to a particular body area. It is essential that the overlying skin is firm with good elasticity. This enables a smooth skin contour after fat removal. People with loose or hanging skin get better results with skin/fat removal procedures rather than liposuction. Liposuction does not improve the dimpled appearance of the skin that is commonly referred to as "cellulite." After liposuction surgery patients will need to wear a compression garment for 2-4 weeks. Most individuals can return to work within one week of surgery. |
