BREAST REDUCTION
Women who have large breasts may experience a variety of symptoms from the excess weight and size of their breasts. These include back, shoulder, neck chest pains as well as skin irritation beneath the breast. Breast reduction surgery is usually performed for the relief of these symptoms. The best candidates for this surgery are those women who are mature enough to understand the surgery and to have realistic expectations about the results. There are a variety of surgical techniques used to reshape and to reduce the female breast. After removal of the excess breast tissue and skin, the breast are reshaped and repositioned to a more aesthetic appearance. It is necessary to reposition the nipple to a higher site on the newly shaped breast. In most instances this can be done while preserving sensation to the nipple tissue. All breast reduction surgery involves skin incisions which will leave permanent and visible scars on the breast skin. The operation however, is so designed as to minimize the visibility of these scars. Usually patients stay overnight in a hospital and are discharged the following day. Healing takes about 10 to 14 days when most patients can resume normal activities. |
