BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to treated wrinkles that are caused by overactive muscles of expression. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a protein derivative of Botulinum toxin which is a neurotoxin agent produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In minute doses BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to temporarily paralyze the hyper-active facial muscles that produce deep or noticeable wrinkles. In many patients its effect can last up to 4 months.

The injections are relatively painless and can be given during a short office visit. Within a day or two most people notice a disappearance or reduction of the troublesome frown lines or wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also being used to treat the condition of axillary hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating under the arms. Again, it must be re-injected every 4 to 5 months to maintain this beneficial effect.
